Boyd Louis Ticktin, the son of a World War I veteran,
left a budding career as an actor and joined the Army Air Corps on
20 January, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. After completing his training
he was assigned to the 79th Fighter Squadron on 11 August, 1944 but
only flew a few missions before being transferred to 67th Fighter
Wing a few months later.
Post-war he co-founded Air Ambulance, Inc., a highly
successful company which specialized in transporting critically ill
people. Many of the company's employees were former Army Air Force
personnel. By
1947 the company had six specially equipped Cessna aircraft
and had opened for business in New York with future plans to spread
to Chicago, Houston, Denver, Seattle, Los Angeles, and Miami.
He passed away in St. Petersburg,
Florida on 8 August, 1979.
